William H. Andrews HAWS Scholarship
The William H. Andrews/Housing Authority of Winston-Salem Scholarship was established in 1992 to assist with the cost of post-secondary undergraduate education for residents living in housing owned or managed by the Housing Authority of the City of Winston-Salem.
The scholarship is for traditional age and non-traditional age students who will pursue degrees from accredited post-secondary two or four-year institutions. It is the mission of the scholarship to encourage and enable residents of public housing and Section Eight housing to pursue their education in an accredited post-secondary school. Scholarships will be applied to the cost of undergraduate tuition, fees, room and board, and other college expenses.
To receive consideration, applicants must:
- Be listed on the lease of the property owned or managed by HAWS
- Have a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 2.0 at time of initial application (college students with a history of poor college grades, but who have not been in college in the last two years, will be evaluated on a case by case basis)
- Demonstrate evidence of community involvement or school activities including any awards or leadership roles
- Traditional age students must be enrolled full-time each semester (minimum of 12 hours)
- Non-traditional age students are encouraged to be enrolled full-time, but must be enrolled a minimum of six hours each semester
